Beef Buying Tips

1.   How thick should I get my steaks (¾ inch, 1 inch or 1½ inch)?
  We recommend 1 inch.

2. How large should I order my roasts?
Based on a ½ pound serving per person—
3-4 pound roasts serve 6-8 adults.
4-6 pound roasts serve 8-10 adults.

3. Do you want all steaks, all roasts or a mixture of both?
On the cutting instructions on the order form, "And" = mixture and "Or" = just roasts.

4. Do you want a lot of hamburger or do you want some other choices?
On the order form, it a lot of hamburger circle "no" to brisket, skirt steaks, cube steaks, flank steaks and/or soup meat. Even if you circle "yes" to all of the above cuts you will still receive about 80 to 100 pounds of hamburger per side depending on the weight of the animal.

5. Do you like to make homemade soups?
On the order form, circle "Best" to bones for wonderfully flavored soups. Circle "All" if you would like to treat the canine members of your family. :-)

6. Do you want some easy to grill hamburgers already pattied for you?
Choose a percentage of the hamburger that you would like to have pattied for you. Patties are 45¢ extra per pound but well worth it. No need to thaw. Just heat up the grill, separate the patties by clapping two piles together or one pile against a hard surface like the side of a porcelain sink and place frozen patties on the grill.

7. How large is your family?
All small steaks will be packaged two per pack, large steaks one per pack and loose hamburger will be packaged in one pound packs unless otherwise specified.

8. How long will a side of beef last my family?
Typically, a family of 2, 3 or 4 will have a continuous supply of delicious beef for one year.
